I'm sure a lot of people have seen this, but I think this poem is really beautiful. I think that watching the author speak it adds another layer. You really are forced to hear the emotion in a way that you wouldn't get just reading it, the way the author reads it changes the way the words register in your mind. I think all of the ticks the author has when he reads add to the poem. When you read a poem it is up to you as the reader to interpret the poem how you want to, but with the author reading it to you, you are forced to see the poem through his eyes, I really think it adds another layer.
I really liked this because when I first saw the title I thought this would be mostly like a PSA about OCD and how it effects people. I like how the poem itself showed how the OCD effects him but the actual words of the poem are about his girlfriend. I like how the OCD is demonstrated a little by the poem, but mostly by his own behavior.
I love this video Langley- what makes his love so believable is how desperate he seems, and he's speaking almost manically. I think that's what heartbreak is; panic, disorientation, pain you can't ignore- the pain knowing that no one will try to make a kiss with her perfect the way he did. The way he speaks make you feel what he's feeling, and I think that is, in a nutshell, the goal of any work of art, any painting, any piece of writing- to make the reader feel something they don't, can't, or haven't before.
I remember this video! This was one of my favorite videos and poems. I love the amount of emotion and realism that he puts into his words and really shows what it's like to have his heart broken. He writes it so perfectly but the way his says it is even more perfect and really shows the level of emotion he is feeling.

ReplyDeleteI can never enjoy such sad stories like this, because I can only feel the emotions of the author. I guess that means he did a good job though.
