Super Bowl? World Series? Same thing

I never considered myself one to enjoy watching sports games. Going to Fenway, or Gillette is one thing, however, sitting in my living room staring at a screen and watching men basically walking from base to base does not appeal to me. So I am sure you can imagine my surprise when I found Danielle and myself curled up by the fire, alone, and immersed in the Super Bowl. Yes, I would probably pretend to watch it, or google the score every so often however, I never predicted we of all people would be stationed in front of the TV, home alone. Trapped inside a white blanket of snow, there was no way we were going anywhere. So, the Super Bowl it was!
"ARE YOU SERIOUS!?" "COME ON!". We looked at each other in question, what were we doing!? So enveloped in a game we hardly understood! Yet, we could not take our eyes off the screen. It felt as if we were in our own world, oblivious to each other as we screamed and cheered for the only two players we knew; Brady and Gronk. Twos became ones and ones became zeros, and the suspense increased. With only seconds left of the game, we began giving up hope. At this point, there was no pretending we did not care because our angry questions shot at the TV said it all. All of a sudden, a pass was thrown, as we watched it soar into the arms of an opposing player. We looked away, refusing to watch but when we looked up it was no longer in the hands of the opposing team but those of our own. We looked at each other as we jumped up and down in excitement!
“WE WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!” (Danielle)... and at that moment, our chances of considering ourselves true fans, died.

  1. This is such a real take on what alot of people don't acknowledge out loud, the kind of fear of not really being seen as a fan of something because you don't know everything about it or because somebody assumes you don't like something and tells you that you dont and people are so afraid to say they might be wrong simply because theres not evidence and facts and knowledge to back up your love of something. There doesn't need to be, if you love something it doesnt matter who doubts you, those who love the things that they do without the need of an audience are so much happier than those who needs others approval.

  2. This, sadly, is a true story. As being a true American we were kind of obligated to watch the Super Bowl. In my defense though, I internally knew that we were watching the Super Bowl but my lips blurted out World Series in the height of excitement. This story does a good job conveying the message that we are not die hard fans but like to support the Patriots (aka Tom and Gronk).

  3. On Super Bowl day lots of my family gather together to watch the game. What actually happens is the boys watch the game, and the girls eat food, talk, gossip and then only watch half time. Even though I don't watch the game I still enjoy the evening by family who I do not see that often.
