This weekend I went to Salem and got my tarot cards read. If any one doesn't know tarot cards are, they are used for fortune telling. There are usually 78 in a pack and each card has a different meaning. For example, there are cards of love and death and depending on which order they are placed, that will supposedly tell your future. Going into this, I was somewhat skeptical as someone would usually be about fortune telling. Once I sat down with my "fortune teller," she told me what was most important, a difficult decision in my education. The cards said that I was torn and wanted to either go one way, or another. And of course, that was spot on. I was going through a really difficult decision in my life, if I wanted to go to art school or study psychology, and to my surprise, these are the choices that she said. As we continued the session, she was either spot on about certain things, or completely off. As she gave me advice, she said two confusing things. One of them being something is going to happen in two years that could change my life for the better or for the worse, and someone names Barbara is going to come into my life and change it somehow. I'm eager to see if this is true, and see if the tarot cards can really predict your future.

I really enjoyed reading this post because fortune tellers and tarot cards interest me a lot. I have spend a lot of time trying to decide whether I believe in these things because I really want to. I have got my fortune told before and I find that the information usually relates to something going on in my life as well. I am very interested about the "Barbara" prediction! I wish you luck in your school decision and I really liked reading this blog post.

ReplyDeleteIf someone named Barbara comes into your life, lemme know because now I am curious.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty skeptical of fortune tellers and witchcraft and all that, but this was cool because it was an experience of a peer and not something I read online. Who knows, maybe there is some truth in their trade.
I noticed the way that the quotation marks around "Fortune teller" added a sense of skepticism to the story. It makes it clear that the narrator is not 100% sure if the card reader will be correct or not, and it seems she is right, the teller gets some things completely off. However, since the reader was spot on about other things it raises the narrators belief and confusion as to whether or not the teller actually has a talent, and the narrator finds herself eager to see if the predictions come true or not.
ReplyDeleteI was drawn to this post by the interesting subject, one that most people do not come across often. You did a great job simply explaining how tarot cards work and your own recent experience with them, and now I am curious to learn more about them. I might even go get my tarot cards read the next time I have the opportunity. Definitely one of the most interesting weekend stories I've heard!
